Una Vocé
The
Center for Spiritual Living does a Wednesday night service each week,
sometimes as a Taize and or meditation service. I sing with the
harmony ensemble Una
Vocé on selected Wednesdays when I'm in
Seattle. We do
a variety of chants and simple sing-alongs. I enjoy the low stress nature
of this gig. We don't rehearse, we just show up an hour and a half prior
to the service, director Eric hands us music and away we go. We work in a
very fun, improvisational manner, making up harmonies and enjoying each other.
There are about nine wonderful people in the ensemble.
The service itself is
peaceful and gentle, with candles and much congregational participation.
It is very casual also, so come in whatever you're wearing whether it's jeans or
your work clothes.

Upcoming Performances
(updated for Fall 2007)

Michael Stillwater, musical healer, songwriter,
interfaith minister, and recording artist, has invited
me to Seattle in October/November to provide supporting
vocals at a number of his events. I met Michael at
a Seattle Unity chant service when I showed up to
provide support vocals, and we hit it
off instantly, both musically and personally. I
have deeply enjoyed working with Michael over the last
year and a half, and am excited to make the trip up
north for these gigs. Last winter, I had the
pleasure of recording Michael's new song "Feels
Like Home" with him, which will be released
on his upcoming CD. Click on the song title on
his
home page for an audio sample. All the female vocals
and harmonies are me. Cool, huh? Please
check out his site at the link above for more
information about his wonderful work. |

Chant Service Supporting Vocals/Improv
with Michael Stillwater
and Erin McGaughan at
Seattle Unity
Church
Wednesday,
October 31st, 2007, pre-service chanting begins at 6:45; service begins at 7 pm;
free
Oh my gosh, the first time I did
this with Erin and Michael it was one of the most magical musical carpet rides I
ever went on. Michael enjoyed our collaboration so much he asked me to
sing with him again at his gathering the next night. This style of music
making is my favorite thing ever, improvisational harmonies and melodies,
echoes, etc., made up on the spot, with other mega-creative folks. It's
all very loose and free flowing, spiritual and heart-full. This is part of
Seattle Unity's peaceful, lovely chant/Deeksha service. For more info,
check the SU website link above.

ChantWave
with Michael Stillwater
at
The Center for Spiritual Living
Friday, November 2nd, 2007, 7:30 pm;
$15 in advance, $20 at the door
ChantWave is a way of singing
from the heart for the purpose of feeling connected to the source of life, to
ourselves, and to each other. It is using chant, the repeated singing of sacred
or healing lyrics, to shift from a 'head consciousness' to a 'heart
consciousness'. |

Wednesday, November 28th, 2007,
7:00 pm
I
generally end up with a solo feature piece, and an unknown number of

Christmas
Carols and Candlelighting Service with Una Voce
at
The Center for Spiritual Living
Wednesday, December 19th, 2007,
7:00 p.m.
It's
never too early to get the holiday calendar dialed in. This one is
tentative for me, depending on whether I am in Seattle at the time. At the
moment, it's leaning toward not, but I thought you might like a heads up,
just in case. |
